Apple has also moved quickly to deepen that commitment: It began making the entire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2025-08-19\/apple-expands-iphone-production-in-india-for-us-bound-new-models\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">iPhone 17 lineup in India<\/a> ahead of last September&#8217;s launch, and Apple CEO Tim Cook said the majority of U.S. demand is <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/05\/01\/apple-ceo-tim-cook-says-tariffs-to-add-900m-in-costs-in-q3\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">now fulfilled by India-made iPhones<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That shift accelerated in 2025, as Apple faced uncertainty in China due to ever-changing U.S. tariff rules, pushing it to diversify production across multiple countries. The stakes were high enough that President Donald Trump personally warned Cook against <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/05\/15\/trump-tells-apples-ceo-to-stop-expanding-iphone-production-in-india\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">expanding further in India<\/a> at a business summit in Doha in May.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">India is also becoming an important consumer market for Apple. The company shipped 14 million units there last year, up 9% year-over-year, according to analyst firm <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2026\/01\/23\/apple-iphone-just-had-its-best-year-in-india-as-the-smartphone-market-stays-broadly-flat\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Counterpoint<\/a>. Separately, Bloomberg noted that total iPhone sales in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2025-09-05\/apple-s-india-sales-hit-record-9-billion-after-big-retail-push\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">the country surpassed $9 billion<\/a> last year. Apple is reportedly in talks to launch Apple Pay in India this year and opened its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.apple.com\/in\/newsroom\/2026\/02\/apple-borivali-opens-in-mumbai-this-thursday-february-26\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">sixth Indian store last
