{"id":3108668,"date":"2026-04-01T15:58:39","date_gmt":"2026-04-01T22:58:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/?p=3108668"},"modified":"2026-04-01T16:29:38","modified_gmt":"2026-04-01T23:29:38","slug":"de-fi-platform-drift-suspends-deposits-and-withdrawals-after-millions-in-crypto-stolen-in-hack","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2026\/04\/01\/de-fi-platform-drift-suspends-deposits-and-withdrawals-after-millions-in-crypto-stolen-in-hack\/","title":{"rendered":"De-fi platform Drift suspends deposits and withdrawals after millions in crypto stolen in hack"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p id=\"speakable-summary\" class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Decentralized finance company <a href=\"https:\/\/drift.trade\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Drift<\/a> says it has suspended withdrawals and deposits after confirming a security incident.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The crypto platform said <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/DriftProtocol\/status\/2039417136729227425\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">in a post on X<\/a> that it was &#8220;experiencing an active attack,&#8221; and that it was working to &#8220;contain the incident.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Security researchers and public blockchain data suggest the losses could be significant. Blockchain security firm <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/CertiKAlert\/status\/2039401868137271773\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">CertiK said on X<\/a> that hackers may have stolen around $136 million, while crypto analytics firm Arkham put the figure <a href=\"https:\/\/intel.arkm.com\/explorer\/address\/HkGz4KmoZ7Zmk7HN6ndJ31UJ1qZ2qgwQxgVqQwovpZES\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">at around $285 million stolen<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If confirmed, this would make the Drift hack the largest crypto theft of the year, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/rekt.news\/leaderboard\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">the Rekt leaderboard<\/a>, a site that tracks crypto thefts by size.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It&#8217;s not clear who is behind the attack, and a spokesperson for Drift did not immediately respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Security firms say North Korea was behind the most crypto thefts last year, <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/10\/07\/north-korean-hackers-stole-over-2-billion-in-crypto-so-far-in-2025-researchers-say\/\">netting at least $2 billion in stolen cryptocurrency<\/a>, funds the regime is believed to use to finance its nuclear weapons program and skirt international sanctions that restrict its access to the global financial
